Age band
12 to 18 months
This season is motion and pointing. Many children take first independent steps, add a few words beyond mama or dada, and start to show you what they want with a finger, not only a cry.
How to hold these lists
CDC writes milestones as things most children (75 percent or more) can do by a listed age. The lists are for conversation. They are not a home quiz. If an item is missing, a skill was lost, or you are uneasy, call the clinician.
By 1 year and 15 months
From CDC by 1 year and 15 months: waving, a special name for a parent, pointing to ask, a few steps alone, one or two words besides mama or dada.
By 18 months
From CDC by 18 months: move away then look back, point to share interest, try three or more words besides mama or dada, walk without holding on, try a spoon.
